Colonia de Sant Jordi is a tourist complex, a small settlement in the municipality of Las Salinas (Ses Salines), in the south-east part of the island of Majorca. La Colonia de Sant Jordi is famous mostly because of its marina and the nautical activities it has on offer, as well as the salt-rich environment that it finds itself in, a situation and characteristic which lends its name to the area, that holds no more than 5000 habitants. La Colonia de Sant Jordi is situated within the municipality of Las Salinas (or Ses Salines), and is surrounded by a salt-rich environment, which gives its name to the municipality. The small village finds itself between Santanyi and Campos, in the southeastern corner of the island.
This a coastal area of virgin beaches, small coves and white sand. La Colonia de Sant Jordi is one of the most recognised tourist destinations in this region, with beaches such as 'Playa Dels Estanys', 'Playa del Carbo', 'Playa del Dolc' and 'Playa de Es Trenc' ensuring the area is always full of tourists in the summer months. Its origins are predominantly maritime with the port now being its principle attraction, around which have been developed a large tourist complex and commercial centres. Its boats, chartered yachts available for rent, its mooring stations, the bars and restaurants, hotels, apartments and chalets all work towards making this village the perfect place to spend a relaxing break away!
In La Colonia de Sant Jordi you can enjoy the sun, beaches and open-air sports with sailing and sea swimming, scuba-diving, golf, hiking and cycling the most emphasised of those sports. There is also the option to go on a variety of day trips to stunning nearby villages and towns such as Inca, Calvia, Santanyi or even the capital Palma de Mallorca where you can get to see a selection of beautiful monuments such as the Bellver Palace or the imposing Palma Cathedral.
